A review conducted by former health minister Lord Darzi has outlined the issues facing the NHS, including the impact of musculoskeletal conditions on long-term sickness.

In response, Craig Jones, Chief Executive at the Royal Osteoporosis Society, said:

"I welcome this warts-and-all report by Lord Darzi, which highlights the impact of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions like osteoporosis on long-term sickness.

"With two out of every three people with osteoporosis missing life-changing bone medication, we know only too well that the NHS is broken. The solutions identified of community-based care, technology and prevention are the right ones. Fracture Liaison Services, which Health Secretary Wes Streeting has promised to roll out nationwide by 2030, address all three themes.

"Local health teams are poised and ready to go in setting up these prevention services, but we need Wes Streeting to fire the starting gun in the Budget."
