The Women’s Health Plan was launched in Scotland on Friday 20 August to ensure all women enjoy the best possible healthcare throughout their lives.

It includes 66 actions to improve women’s health inequalities by raising awareness around women’s health, improving access to health care and reducing inequalities in health outcomes for girls and women, both for sex-specific conditions and in women’s general health.

Pleasingly, one of the outcomes targeted in the report is that, “women are properly supported around the time of menopause to assess their future risk of osteoporosis and fractures and given appropriate lifestyle advice,” which reflects the Royal Osteoporosis Society's contribution to the process.

Craig Jones, Chief Executive, said:

“We welcome the publication of the Women’s Health Plan. Half of women over 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis and we’re pleased to see that the importance of having conversations about prevention and managing the future risk of osteoporosis are recognised in the plan. The Women’s Health Plan is an important lever for policy and practical changes which can ensure that all women enjoy the best possible health throughout their lives.”
