We’re lucky enough to be a part of a young girl’s heart-warming story. Seven-year-old Amelie Davies chose to raise money for the ROS in support of her great-grandma, Julia, who has osteoporosis.

Wanting to ‘share some sunshine’, Amelie grew small sunflowers, made badges, and set up a sunflower stall with an honesty box outside the retirement flat where her great-grandma lives.

“My great-grandma Julia is 85 years old, has very bad osteoporosis and finds it very, very hard to walk and move.

“The building that she lives in has no lift and because she lives in an upstairs flat, she has not been able to get downstairs and out into the fresh air for over 18 months.”

Unfortunately, plans to have a new lift installed in the flat were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“My great-grandma never complains and always has a smile on her face but I worry lots that really, she must be very sad because she has not felt the rain, wind or sunshine or seen a sunflower grow for over a year and a half.”

“When lockdown finally ends and the lift for her flat gets made, I would like to ‘share some sunshine’ with my great-grandma and spread some happiness by having a picnic with her in the shared garden that is just outside her flat, that she hasn’t seen in such a long time.”

Even without being present for the sales at her sunflower stall, Amelie raised more than £200 to help support people affected by osteoporosis, like her great-grandma Julia.

We’ve felt so touched by Amelie and Julia’s story, and grateful for the kindness. Thank you, Amelie, for sharing some sunshine with us!

Amelie’s JustGiving page has now closed, but you can still read her story.
