Better Bones Luton
Better Bones Luton is a community-based project by the Royal Osteoporosis Society, just for Luton.
A local support network
Whether you or a loved one have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, or have concerns about your bone health, the Better Bones Luton group will connect you with people undergoing similar experiences.
Increasing knowledge
Better Bones Luton aims to tackle the chronically low understanding of bone health, risk factors and osteoporosis.
Luton has a population of approximately 225,300 and has been identified by ROS as a regional ‘cold spot’ in the detection, treatment and availability of ongoing support people with osteoporosis because:
- There is no Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) at Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
- Diagnosis rates are lower than the national average in Luton.
- Before Better Bones Luton, there was no ROS Support Group.
Better Bones Luton will encourage timely, expert ROS Support; introducing people to our online Risk Checker and Nurse Helpline.
Working in partnership
To ensure that we're reaching everyone in the city, the ROS wants to work in partnership with Luton organisations and local volunteers. This partnership includes supporting health fairs and other local events, visiting community groups and holding bone health workshops in venues across Luton.
Please contact the Better Bones Luton Project Coordinator at maddy.gamble@theros.org.uk if you would like to get involved!
