Thanks for speaking with the Pink Ladies today
Thank you for taking the time to meet our Pink Ladies – a team of volunteers who know first-hand the toll osteoporosis takes on people’s lives. Your conversation with them is part of a national effort to make sure this condition finally gets the attention that it deserves.
Osteoporosis affects half of women over 50 and a fifth of men of the same age. Yet basic diagnostic services remain missing in half of NHS Trusts. After years of being overlooked, there is now huge momentum for change. Every major political party committed at the last election to rolling out Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) to every area by 2030 – a pledge supported by 271 Parliamentarians and backed by national newspaper campaigns in the Sunday Express and Mail on Sunday.
"We will expand the use of FLSs to every region in England and achieve full coverage by 2030," Wes Streeting, June 2024
Get involved
Whether you’re a Parliamentarian or a supporter, you can play a vital role in making osteoporosis services available for everyone.
“I’m calling on the Health Secretary today to make the words of the 10-year plan for the NHS, and his previous FLS promise, a reality now." Ed Argar, July 2025
Parliamentarians and elected officials
FLS is the international gold standard for preventing life-changing further fractures – but half the NHS is still without them. FLS identify people with osteoporosis, deliver the right diagnosis, and support them to begin and maintain treatment that reduces the risk of further fractures.
We were delighted that both Labour and Conservative manifestos committed to making FLS universal by 2030, alongside pledges from the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and Reform. This is now a genuine cross-party priority, but without a clear rollout plan and pump-prime funding there’s a risk of delay.
“There’s been cross-party consensus for years that these services must be available nationwide. Ministers need to follow through and show they’re serious about evidence-based prevention." Helen Morgan, July 2025
Universal FLS would prevent 74,000 fractures over five years, including 31,000 hip fractures, and save 8,000 lives.
We would welcome your support in ensuring this vital pledge is delivered. Our Policy Team can provide constituency-level data, briefings, and opportunities to raise the issue in Parliament. Please contact us at policy@theros.org.uk.
