These are your Mighty Miles. 

Calling all wild wanderers, steady steppers, amateur amblers, and hiking heroes! It's time to do something Mighty this September.

 

Organise a 'Mighty Miles' event this September, and be part of a brand new movement across the UK.

Dust off your walking boots and take on a brand new challenge this September. We're on a mission to get as many people as possible walking and raising awareness of osteoporosis in their area - and we need your help.

There are 4 options to choose from - 1 mile, 3.5 miles, 6 miles, or a Mighty Marathon of 26.2 miles.

Whether you have osteoporosis and want to walk for yourself, know someone who has and want to walk for them, have lost a loved one with the condition and want to honour their memory, or simply want to show support for the 3.5 million living in the UK with osteoporosis – these are your Mighty Miles to dedicate to whoever you like. Each walker will receive a dedication back sign to wear on your back on the day and show everybody who you're walking for.

However you walk, these are your Mighty Miles. Who will you walk for? Walk wherever you are, any time during the month of September 2024.

 

It's easy to get involved and take part.. and, it's FREE to sign up!:

1. Choose a distance that suits you. From 1 mile to a full marathon, there's an option for everyone.

2. Plan your route. Take a look at our top suggestions for different distances!

3. Will you walk solo, or recruit a team? Gather friends, family or colleagues, or make plans to walk solo. But you'll never walk alone - you'll be walking with hundreds across the UK all stepping towards a future where we beat osteoporosis together.

Every Mighty Mile walker receives:

  • A FREE 'team ROS' t shirt when you sign up
  • A dedication back sign to wear with pride
  • A guide on getting started with exercise if you have osteoporosis - including stretches for your warm up and cool down
  • Fundraising support and updates from our friendly team - we're here to cheer you on every step of the way!
  • A celebration pack to make your finish line shine (optional)*
  • An invite to our exclusive Facebook group (optional)
  • An ROS medal if you raise over £100.

*Every single mile you walk is a cause for celebration! Make your finish line shine and request a celebration pack – filled with bunting cut outs, eco-friendly balloons, cheer sticks and more. Simply request that you'd like a pack on your registration form.

1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis.

Organise a 1 mile walk and help us be there for everyone affected by osteoporosis.

Our 1-mile option is a great option for everyone to take part in. Walk it in one go or spread it out over a few days – this is your Mighty Mile to walk however you want!

Looking for 1 mile route inspiration? Our favourite 1-mile ideas are:

  • Walk a lap around your local park and have a park picnic celebration at the end.
  • Plan a walk to your favourite local coffee shop and end the mile with a well-deserved slice of cake.

Organise a 3.5 mile walk and help us be there for everybody affected by osteoporosis.

Our 3.5-mile option is a great challenge for people looking to push themselves a little bit farther! These are your Mighty Miles to cover however you choose.

Looking for 3.5-mile route inspiration? Our favourite 3.5-mile ideas are:

  • Plan a beach walk! Walk along the coast and end your walk with a celebratory BBQ.
  • Find a local woodland and plan a 3.5-mile route. If you’re walking with family and friends, why not plan a nature scavenger hunt?

Our 6-mile route is the perfect choice for those looking to really challenge themselves this summer. Grab your walking boots, fill up those water bottles, and attach your dedication sign – it’s time to plan a walk to remember!

Looking for 6-mile route inspiration? Our favourite 6-mile route ideas are:

  • Walk along a local canal and take in the beautiful nature as you complete your 6-mile journey
  • Plan a 6-mile route from one local park to another! Get people to clap and cheer as you and your walking team complete the course.

Looking to really challenge yourself, or walk on behalf of someone you love living with osteoporosis?

Take on our Mighty Marathon challenge. Organise a 26.2 mile walk and help us be there for everybody affected by osteoporosis.

Our Mighty Marathon option is the perfect choice for those looking to plan an event on behalf of someone they love living with osteoporosis. Walk it for your mum, your dad, your grandparent, your child - walk it for anyone who can't do it themselves. 

Looking for 26.2 mile route inspiration? Our favourite 26.2 mile route ideas are:

  • Plan a coastal walk. Find a start point and keep to the public coastal paths. Split the 26.2 miles into daily chunks if it's too much to do in 1 go.
  • Find a location of your choosing and organise a marathon relay. Split the 26.2 miles into chunks and recruit others to walk parts of it as a team.
