We’re pleased to announce that the Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS) is one of 345 charities to have been awarded funding from the National Lottery Community Fund Scotland.

The National Lottery Community Fund are the largest funder of community activity in the UK. They award money raised by National Lottery players to communities across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The ROS will receive a total of £9,758 to fund Volunteer Support Groups across Scotland by providing a blended model of both online and in person peer support for people affected by osteoporosis in Scotland.

Yvonne Archer, Trust Manager at the ROS, said:

“Thanks to the valuable support of the National Lottery, ROS is now able to extend and expand our peer-to-peer support services across Scotland. Osteoporosis is a painful, progressive and debilitating disease that robs people of their independence, causes hardship and leads to social isolation. One in two women and one in five men will develop osteoporosis. However, with the right support it is possible to remain active and to live well with the disease.

“We urge anybody affected by osteoporosis to go to our website, theros.org.uk, today and join an online or face-to-face support group. Together we will beat osteoporosis.”

The National Lottery Community Fund, Scotland Chair, Kate Still, said:

“National Lottery funding can make amazing things happen in local communities across the country. This project delivered by Royal Osteoporosis Society, is a great example of community activity in action, showing just what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause or to help others. National Lottery players can be proud to know that the money they raise is helping to support this vital work and to help communities thrive.”
