We're taking our patient information sessions online

We’re creating a series of videos for people with osteoporosis that will be available to watch on demand. These will answer commonly asked questions after a diagnosis of osteoporosis, in the absence of our popular public information events.

We usually hold hundreds of public patient education sessions across the UK each year, in collaboration with local healthcare professional colleagues. These include events for people newly diagnosed with osteoporosis, who have specific support needs.

But the coronavirus pandemic has put a stop to these events. Around 50 sessions were cancelled between March and June this year, meaning approximately 2,000 people have missed out on vital information and support.

And although government restrictions are gradually easing, it seems unlikely that our patient education sessions will be able to resume any time soon.

As an alternative, we are creating a series of videos for patients to watch online from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

Narrated by osteoporosis specialists, the videos will answer common questions about osteoporosis and bone health – including questions about scans and tests, treatment decisions and lifestyle changes.

Keep an eye on our website and Twitter feed for future updates, or email us for more information.
