It is important to warm up before you start exercising. Warming up makes your activity more effective and reduces the chance of injury.
On this page, we share a warm-up routine you can follow before exercising.
Most people with osteoporosis can exercise safely. Choose the exercise and level of intensity that is right for you.
Talk to your doctor or physiotherapist before starting any exercise if you:
have a history of many broken bones or spinal fractures
are recovering from a broken bone
have any questions or concerns about your own personal situation.
They can tell you about what exercises and activities are safe and suitable for you.
How to warm up
In a warm up you should feel yourself getting warmer but you shouldn’t be out of breath.
This allows the circulation of blood to increase and gives you a chance to prepare your body to exercise and lubricate your joints.
What you will need
All the warm up movements can be performed standing or sitting.
If you struggle with balance or want to do any of these exercises sitting down, you will need an armless chair.
